We recently celebrated Julia's first birthday (see pictures above). We had family and friends and plenty to eat and drink. The new "Big Unit" was broken in by a multitude of tots and for a change I even delivered the food on time (someday I'm sure Courtney will post about my poor culinary timing)!
We had all kinds of visitors from Connecticut and treated the out of towners to some awesome crabs. I love watching others try to eat them and even poke fun at them, but the secret is that I still have no clue what I'm doing with them. Eating with visitors makes me feel almost semi-pro. Eating with the Joneses makes me feel like an amateur!
This last year has been amazing...probably the best year of my life. Clearly Julia has a lot to do with that but she's not the only reason. Here's my top 10 list of why this year has been so great:
- Family - Even though we are separated from all of our family, we've been fortunate to spend some real quality time together. Watching all the nieces and nephews grow up together is so much fun!
- Job - Last year at this time I had just started my new position as Recreation Superintendent and things couldn't be going any better!
- Yankees - Spend a gazillion dollars in the off season and still look up at the Sox! Go ahead! Trade more prospects for Holliday!
- Friends - From Connecticut to Carolina and everywhere in between, we have some fantastic friends!
- HDTV / DVR - No explanation needed.
- Summer Vacation - A week on the Outer Banks having a blast with our friends...it doesn't get much better than that! Can't wait for next year!
- Car Insurance - After discovering that cars can't swim, I'm really, really, really grateful for car insurance.
- Taxes - Now here's one that you wouldn't find on a normal top ten, but who said I'm normal? Our first year with the Julia deduction was, in a word, GLORIOUS!!
- Garden - This is one of my favorite hobbies and I'm psyched that we pretty much have a kick ass garden going right now!
- My Girls - With Courtney, Julia and of course Mia, I'm so lucky to be surrounded by the best ladies! How or why Courtney puts up with my crap, I'm not sure. But I'll never ask her! I'll just keep loving her for it!!!
