Baby Steps and Green Grass

First we had the phantom crawler and now it appears that we have the phantom walker. I picked Julia up from daycare two days ago and as I was leaving was told, "by the way...Julia took some steps today". Furthermore, apparently she doesn't like to be seen taking these little steps.

Yesterday when we got home, I took Jules outside with me while I watered the garden. I placed her standing on the sidewalk about 10 feet from me and if I took my eye off her for a moment, when I looked back at her she was in a different position. Don't get me wrong, she's not going far, but she was definitely stepping.

Today we got home and put her down in front of me, facing Mia. Julia is just nuts about the cat and clearly she let her guard down, because as soon as I let her loose on the floor, she took about a step and a half toward the cat before losing her balance and crawling the rest of the way.

Another amusing development with Julia is that she can't quite figure out grass. After watering the garden in the back, we went out front to water the flowers. This time I placed sat her in the grass. The look on her face was priceless as she refused to move! The best part was that she was wearing little baby capri-like pants and would alternate lifting and wiping her legs where the grass had just been touching until I finally picked her up again.

She's really progressing so fast it's unbelievable. She definitely has her own personality, likes and dislikes. She has good days and bad ones...Courtney and I just need to figure out what causes each!

She's becoming a bit of a fearless, daredevil baby. She LOVES to climb stairs. And I must say that going up she's pretty good at it. It's coming down that's a whole other issue! Today I had gone to Sam's Club before picking her up at daycare. So when we got home, I unloaded the car and we had some boxes of items in the kitchen.

Well as I'm working to put things away, Julia is moving from box to box, moving them around, banging on them and just generally checking things out. Well I turn away for a moment and come back to see my baby girl standing on top of a case of Zip Lock Bags and clapping. It was like she was proud of herself for scaling that monster 6" box!

I can see this as the very beginning of some really fun and amusing stuff!

Couldn't she just take her steps last weekend? Geesh. Well, its time for you guys to come back down again. Ripken needs a walk.

This is the fun age! The smiles, the laughs...all those little things we as adults take for granted are just loved by toddlers. Ben did the same thing in the grass - WOULD NOT MOVE for about an hour. And Luke - he could just stare at an ant hill for an hour! It goes by fast. Enjoy it. Julie is just going to love hanging with her cousins - she will definetly be walking after that weekend! Can't wait to see you! One month to go!

Ok so I just read this again and couldn't help but notice the baby head in the grocery cart. Kinda spooky.
