Last week, Julia was stricken with a major affliction. That's right folks...she was running a 99.4 degree temperature. I think that you can raise your body temperature that much by eating a big meal! Anyhow, it was enough for daycare to mention it to us.
So we kept an eye on her overnight and in the morning it was still there but hadn't gotten any worse. Courtney called the doctor who said that we shouldn't worry about it. We should keep an eye on it and call them if it got worse, but no need to give her anything as this wasn't unusual.
Now came the big decision...what to do about daycare. Courtney called daycare and they thought that we should keep her home for a day and keep an eye on it. My suggestion was to give her a little Tylenol, let it do its job and send her in (we'll refer back to this later).
Now as a good father and husband who has had plenty of time to watch many a good, smart man try to force his opinion on certain areas of child rearing and fail miserably, I decided not to force the issue and cover my half of the day, keeping Julia at home.
Courtney and I are really fortunate in this situation. Our work schedules allow us to make it so that Julia gets all the care she needs with each of us only missing two hours of the work day. As it turns out that day, Courtney needed to work late so I had to come home and put my cape on and turn into SuperDad!
That night I fed her and burped her, changed her and bathed her, read to her and rocked her and put her down for bed with little problem. The next morning she woke up and the fever was still there. I got the call on my way to work and started to voice my opinion again, but then disengaged and told Courtney to make the best decision she could and call me back to tell me what she needed me to do.
Not long after that conversation, I get a call from Courtney saying that she talked with her Mom and she told her to give Julia a little Tylenol, let it do its job and send her to daycare. So the next time I have a thought on how we should care for our child, I'm going to call Grandmom and see if she'll talk to Momma for me!
Julia is just fine now, feeling no ill effects of the blistering fever too dangerous for daycare! Here's a picture that Courtney took yesterday while she was goofing around with Daddy:
