So after my last post about Andy procrastinating on the nursery, he has become better at balancing his time of handywork vs. basketball coach. He has really started to make great progress on the nursery and has made great strides in his handiman-ness (I know, I just made that word up!)!!
So today I came home after working my usual 4 hour shift at the physical therapy clinic and I went upstairs to see how the progress was coming. He has the walls all spotted with sheetrock compound to patch all of the imperfections of tearing down the wallpaper. He also even had a hole cut out in an attempt to add an extra electrical outlet. So when I got home he tells me that he may need help with this electrical outlet addition. I agree, although I was leary! Electricity and ignorance are not a good combo!
So Andy is planning on running the electric from one existing outlet, up through the wall, over the door and down the wall onto the other side of the door. So he tells me that he is going to go up in the attic and he wanted me to tap on the ceiling so he could figure out where he needed to drill the hole in the attic to get the wire between the walls. I start tapping, he starts tapping back. "Can you hear where I am?" he asks. "Yea, sorta" I reply. So after more tapping, and trying to tell him where to move so that he is over top of the hole he cut for the outlet, I hear him start drilling. Then there is more drilling, the occassional cussing and more drilling. Eventually I ask how many holes he has drilled already. "Oh, only about a half dozen or so" he replies! I remain calm, thinking he must know what he is doing. So after more tapping, drilling and cussing, he says thats it, I'm just gonna go for it. That meant he was just going to drill down and see what happens. Of course he wasn't in the right spot and now we have a hole in the ceiling (the first picture!)! But now he knew where he needed to drill to not put more holes in the ceiling. I forgot to mention that the original hole he cut for the outlet box....wasn't in a good spot. So you guessed it, he had to make another hole in the wall! So now we have 2 square holes in the wall (the second picture) and one round hole in the ceiling! So finally, after all of this, we have sweet success!!! That's right, we finally got the holes lined up and we have a wire going from the attic to the nursery. It isn't attached to anything yet, no electricity, no other boxes, but we've made progress!! I'll keep you updated on how it finishes up.
The third picture is of Andy almost admitting defeat in the attic, but his relentless pursuit of perfection won out!

I thought maybe the picture on the right was post playing with electricity. I was worried there for a moment. So where do you stand on the 2 random holes? Do they get covered in some capacity? Or is LBMF going to group up thinking that's where the boogie man lives?
Those two holes are actually on opposite sides of a stud. Originally, I hoped to use the one on the right, but the pitch of the roof would not allow me access, so I had to cut another hole on the left. Fear not! The extra hole is an easy fix! LBMF will never know it existed.
I can't wait until we can start posting some after shots of this room! I think that Court will have a difficult time poking fun then, because the room is going to look great!
And besides Amanda, everyone knows that the Boogie Man lives in the basement!!!

A Wisk admitting defeat....HA! Never - especially Andy! I have to say I am really enjoying these blogs. I really get a good laugh at my brother's expense - Thanks Court! Yeah, the room will probably look fantastic afterwards, but the process of how Andy goes about getting the room ready has been hilarious!
